Botox vs Selphyl

Botox vs Selphyl

Did you know that the solution to your most annoying wrinkle woes is potentially flowing in your veins right now? If you’re interested in a natural skin filler and an increasingly popular alternative to Botox injections, SELPHYL® Dermal Filler is about as natural as you can get. Dubbed the “Vampire Facelift,” SELPHYL Dermal Filler uses the blood platelets and fibrin from your own blood to create a solution that can improve the firmness of your skin, and fill out skin depressions, wrinkles, and folds. SELPHYL’s special matrix solution uses no synthetic or animal-derived materials—it’s all you.

How does SELPHYL work?

Your dermatologist or esthetician will collect a small sample of your blood. He or she will use a centrifuge to separate the blood components, and isolate the blood fibrin and platelets. Platelets are the same cells that that help heal wounds. Just as they help promote skin repair at the site of a cut or scrape, they can help repair of damaged or weakened skin, such as wrinkles and scars. The platelets are the key ingredient in the Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) that your doctor will then inject into your skin where you’re experiencing wrinkles. The great thing about the PRFM is that it continues to work for up to seven days after the initial injection, continuing to promote collagen production, as well as dermal matrix reconstruction. This process smooths out wrinkles, scars, and other skin depressions. Like other injectables, SELPHYL® is great for crow’s feet, laugh lines, and other wrinkles on your face.

How long is a SELPHYL® treatment?

The full process only takes about 20 minutes to complete. Your doctor can centrifugate your blood into its key components in about six minutes, and then the series of injections follows. Most patients require only one treatment to get results.

How quickly will I see the maximum results?

Most patients report an immediate increase in skin volume following their SELPHYL treatment. Almost all patients experience some initial swelling (this is similar to other injectable fillers). After the swelling subside, patients should expect to see sustained skin volume gains in about three weeks. The treatment keeps working for up to seven days after the injection, so over time patients will notice greater results. Results are not permanent, but they are long-lasting.

What side effects are associated with SELPHYL?

One of the benefits of SELPHYL is that it uses your own blood, so it is highly unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, unlike some other fillers that use synthetic or animal components. Patients can expect temporary bruising, swelling, itching, tenderness, mild irritation, or discoloration of the skin. These side effects typically subside within a few days after treatment. There are no know serious risks of SELPHYL treatments.

How much does SELPHYL cost?

The price of SELPHYL treatments will depend on many factors, such as your geographic location, number of injections, and doctor. The average price of SELPHYL is $850 –$ 1200.
